Map Denia - Capital of the Marina Alta (Alicante)

Denia
Denia stands out on the Costa Blanca as the capital of the Marina Alta. The town rises near the spectacular cape of San Antonio – where the sun rises on Spain – and at the foot of the Montgo Mountain (Nature Park).Denia - Town- Right at the heart of the town and on the peak of a hill rises Denia´s most emblematic heritage landmark, the Castle with remains from Roman, Moslem and Christian eras. The variety offered by this maritime enclave also leads us to walk around the historic centre and mingle with its people. A night-time walk along the Calle Marques de Campo, one of Denia´s main streets, let us take part in the typical “tapeo” (going with a group of friends to enjoy “tapa” titbits) offered by the many bars lining the street.
In the extrovert and picaresque fishermen’s quarter we can lose ourselves in tiny alleys, with unexpected squares in which to taste the exquisite dishes of this land, rich in rice and fish dishes.
Denia also offers us the chance from Monday to Saturday to buy seafood recently brought into the port, after it has been auctioned at the “Lonja” fish market. During the evenings and nights, along the Cervantes esplanade opposite the port, bohemian stalls are set up offering objects of costume jewellery, leather work, etc.
Golf - La Sella Golf Club with its 18-holes par-72 and a length of 6,072 metres is next to the Montgo Nature Park and offers you all services you could need (teachers, practice range, shop, sauna, club hire, etc).
Beaches - North of the town there are the beaches of Las Marinas stretching 14.4 km, of which 11.6 km are wide sandy beaches and 2.8 km of the pebbly Almadrava beach (8.8 km from the town).
To the south there is the sandy cove of the Marineta Cassiana and the coast continues with another 4.2 km of rocky coves that make up the beaches of Las Rotas.
Denia´s beaches win the European Union Blue Flags every year and also have municipal creche services and easy-access beaches for the disabled.
Windsurfing and sailing - If you are a keen windsurfer, there is a school on the Nova Denia beach during school on the Nova Denia beach during the summer season. The sailing, canoeing and rowing school is at Denia´s yacht harbour. You can take beginners courses in the speciality you wish. Weekly and weekend course are organised.
For yachting lovers, the Spanish Championship in the IMS classes will be held on July 12,13,14 and 15 and later in the month ( the 21st and 22nd) the XXX Diana de Oro regatta will be staged.
Diving - We have the richest sea depths in the area. If you like diving or want to learn the sport, there are six diving schools in Denia. As for diving areas, we would recommend the waters of Las Rotas and the Marine Reserve of San Antonio where the permits are limited as it is a protected area of high ecological value. The permits are issued by Denia´s tourism department (15 a day).
Nature - Denia has privileged natural enclaves: the Montgo Nature Park whose short-distance walking routes take us to caves, landscapes and, of course, to the summit 753 m above sea level and from which the bird´s eye view is matchless; the Cabo San Antonio Marine Reserve and the excursions into the district´s inland valleys. The town hall has published a leaflet with cycling routes.
Fiestas and Culture - In summer Denia castle is the ideal setting in which to enjoy the “Musica al Castell” concerts with ethnic and popular groups. You can find the programme of concerts and buy tickets at the tourist office.
Don´t miss the patron saint fiestas in honour of the Santisima Sangre in July. Among the most eagerly-awaited events are the super-famous “Bous a la Mar” (Buls in the Sea), a unique spectacle classified as a Fiestas of National Tourism Interest and in which the most daring youngsters run in front of the bulls to throw themselves into the sea, with all the risk and emotion involved. As a climax to these fiestas, carnival floats brighten up the streets and their lights and colours fill participants and spectators with joy. <
We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to this beautiful part of Spain.
